The government has filed a review petition in the High Court of Karnataka questioning the propriety of a lower court discharging case against Ramachandrapura math seer Raghaveshwara swami in the ‘Ramakatha’ singer case, said V.S. Ugrappa, chairman of the Legislature Committee on Prevention of Violence and Sexual Abuse of Women and Children.

Speaking at an interactive session at a seminar on “Sexual harassment: awareness and its prevention” at Tumkur University here on Wednesday, Mr. Ugrappa said that the Sessions Court had discharged the case without any trial and hence government has filed a review petition. The High Court, which had admitted the review petition, would hear the case on June 22, he added.

Complaint against professor

Mr. Ugrappa directed the Vice Chancellor A.H. Raja Sab to lodge a complaint with the police against Rajashekar, head of Department of English of University Arts College, accused of sexually harassing his students. He warned of raising the issue of sexual harassment in the university in the next session of the Legislative Council in June, if the complaint is not registered against Rajashekar.

Noting that Rajashekar had been suspended, he said suspension was not a punishment.

Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University Prof. Sab, Registrar M. Venkateshwaralu and others were present.
