Bengal PWD to form technical committee to inspect flyovers, bridges
KOLKATA: The state Public Works Department has decided to form a technical committee that would impose and monitor traffic restrictions on flyovers and bridges as it has been found that at different times that flyovers and bridges are closed for traffic movement for minor issues without proper scrutiny and examination of the condition.
The authorities have been noticing at different times that the traffic police close down a part of flyovers, bridges and culverts for traffic movement and divert traffic due to minor distresses without properly conducting inspections or examining the damaged or distressed spots of the flyovers or bridges.

This often causes traffic management problems as motorists gets most inconvenienced due to the sudden restrictions. The technical committee would decide on the traffic restrictions after a thorough inspection of the structure. The executive engineer of the PWD construction wing will be the nodal officer and would request an inspection of the structure by the technical committee. The technical committee would inspect the bridge and will come out with its findings for taking up follow up action.
