Film fraternities express solidarity with Jisha
The gory act of rape at Perumbavoor recently has left Malayali minds in tremendous shock, bringing to light the issue of women safety, again, in our society. Completely shell-shocked, film fraternities from Malayalam industry have been venting their feelings on it, online. Here is what they have to say
Mammootty
Until yesterday, we used to take pride in being called a Malayali.
Even when Nirbhaya incident happened and such heinous crimes were reported in most parts of North India, we used to proclaim that such a thing will never happen in our State. However, after what happened to Jisha at Perumbavoor, our heads bow down in shame. Standing as one among them, with great pain and self-denial, I ask my brothers to not be perverts, but rise as heroes. One who can stand up for women unconditionally and can protect them from any harm is a hero in the true sense. There should not be another Jisha in the future, let us safeguard women.

When we complain about eve teasing, cat calling, harassment, cyber bullying, domestic violence, nobody cares. When we are told what to do, what to wear, what to say, where to go, what time to go out and we complain about that , nobody cares. When we are attacked for speaking our minds, for taking a stand, for demanding self-respect, nobody cares.
We react only when they are raped and killed??? Only then do we take notice?? Is it time yet?? Is this what we were waiting for?

What will it take?
It's happened a countless times. From a 3"x4" on an inside page of a less than popular daily..to paper cups inverted over candle flames at national monuments..we have reported, read and protested. Yet every time it happens again..why do we think there shouldn't be a NEXT time..and THIS time passes by. Another Jisha becomes another Nirbhaya.
Nirbhaya was not a Malayalee..so our women are safe..Jisha is not my sister..so my home is safe. But remember...every mother, sister, wife and child is just one lonely evening away from a 1000 lit candles at Marine Drive.
Close your eyes and think of not the pain..but the shame..not on them..but on us. On me, on you and every man and woman who thought we didn't know Delhi...we do...and we live far away from Perumbavoor...we don't!
Kill the silence...Get up..Speak!
WHAT WILL IT TAKE?
Unni Mukundanchose to post a picture on his social networking page signifying that castration is the only possible remedy for gruesome incidents like this.He said, 'This post might come across violent but I feel terrible reading about rapes and murders the girls face on a daily basis... expecting real fast action from the police and the government of Kerala... Of course, no punishment less than this for the culprit. '

Recommending mob justice when a brutal murder happens is not of utmost importance. One must learn to react to even the smallest acts of injustice that are happening around. Keeping mum when women are being insulted in buses, trains, schools and offices, and later raising a hue and cry over incidents like this is of no use. Upbringing boys with the right kind of awareness is what is necessary
