Cong turns tables on Govt in AgustaWestland bribery debate

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) Congress today turned the tables on the NDA Government in the AgustaWestland bribery case, with its leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi saying during his intervention in the debate over the issue in the Rajya Sabha, it was Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led regime that reduced the maximum height requirement from 6,000 m to 4,500 m for procurement of choppers and not the UPA dispensation.
Mr Singhvi said in 2002, Brajesh Mishra, principal secretary to the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, favoured height reduction on the apprehension that this condition could end up restricting competition to a single vendor.
He asked how come the company, banned by UPA Government, was allowed to participate in the Aerospace show. Mr Singhvi also questioned the rationale for approving the banned company's foreign investment proposal.
