Knut is on the verge of collapse due to the TSC's failure to remit members' dues for the last nine months, Kericho officials have said.

Most officials and staff members are suffering "financial embarrassment", said branch

secretary

Stanley Mutai.

He added that Knut boss Wilson Sossion has been rendered unable to move freely to address issues facing officials and teachers.

Mutai claimed the failure to remit dues is among the government's persistent "offensive tactics" aimed at denying teachers and union members what is rightfully theirs.

Branch treasurer

Japheth Mugon said no amount of pressure will stop Knut from talking openly about ills committed against it by the government.

Mugon said most branches across the country are operating on "shoe-string" budgets due to government tactics aimed at silencing the union.

He further accused the government of stopping the employment of more teachers to seal the shortage gap.

Mugon said this has forced parents to go for private teachers. He cited Kipsigis Girls and Kericho High schools, saying more than a third of their teachers were hired by the Parents Teachers' Association.

During the May 1 Labour Day celebrations, Mutai and Mugon criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto for failing

to address teachers' problems.

Mutai asked the leaders to put their house in order as they risk being voted out in the 2017 general election.

He said many other public workers are facing financial constraints.
