'Dalit woman autopsy was conducted by a PG student'

ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha medical college superintendent Dr Santhosh Raghavan said it was a final year PG student Amjith E Kutty, who conducted the autopsy of the 29- year-old dalit woman, who was brutally raped and murdered at Perumbavoor near Kochi. It was on Friday, the autopsy of the dalit woman was held at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.
"There is nothing wrong in it.He is a final year PG student and the PG students have to perform postmortems as part of their studies. In medical colleges, even major surgeries are being handled by PG students under the supervision of senior doctors. In the Forensic Department, the PG students are doing the autopsies under the police surgeon. It is police surgeon, who is signing in the reports of autopsies conducted by the PG students. So the PG students don't have any direct responsibilities in it. We have conducted the autopsy of the Perumbavoor murder case without any mistakes," said the MCH superintendent.
