Jaipur: In the wake of deaths of 12 mentally ill children at Jamdoli-based government-run care home for mentally-ill kids, former minister and chairperson of Umag, Bina Kak and parents of specially-abled children sought appointment from chief minister Vasundhara Raje to hand her over a letter demanding shifting of the care home to its erstwhile location at Sethi Colony in the city.
The demand has been made in order to facilitate the remaining 194 mentally ill children in case of emergency.
In a letter to the chief minister Vasundhara Raje, they have put a charter of demands which included appointment of adequate number of physiotherapists and making current inquiry team an independent body. Bina Kak while talking to media persons said, "The care home is far from the city. The deaths of 12 children are shocking. I will urge the state government and authorities concerned to shift the school back to its earlier location at Sethi Colony."
"The deaths have not only brought to fore the insensitivity of the staff but also of the government," she alleged. Expressing shock over the state government's response so far, Kak further said, "The Jamdoli-based care home has a woman by the name of Kavita as in-charge. She is the one whom I had suspended and blacklisted during my tenure as woman and child development. Let us be fair and sensitive when it comes to the life of special children." Deepak Kalra, director of Umang and former chairperson of State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights said, "We have demanded various measures for the safety and security of 194 children that are presently undergoing treatment at Jamdoli-based care home. The state government should now follow the minimum standards and guidelines set by the National Trust, New Delhi (Ministry of social justice and empowerment, Government of India)."Box
