3 killed as truck falls into creek in Songadh

Three persons were killed and six others injured when the truck in which they were travelling fell into a 30-foot deep creek in Songadh in Tapi district on Tuesday.

Surat: Three persons were killed and six others injured when the truck in which they were travelling fell into a 30-foot deep creek in Songadh in Tapi district on Tuesday. The fly ash-laden truck had picked up daily wage labourers from the gate of a paper mill to be dropped at Songadh. The truck driver is on the run.
The deceased were Sanjay R Gamit, 32, Mangu R Gamit, 36, and Sunil Gamit, 30.
They were from the same village in Tapi district. The injured are admitted at Vyara referral hospital. Those injured were Ashok Gamit, Sachin Gamit, Sunil Gamit, Ratan Gamit, Raju Gamit and Jayanti Gamit.
Police inspector DD Pawar said, "The driver lost control over the steering wheel at S shaped creek and the truck jumped the railing and fell into the 30-foot deep creek."
Police sub inspector DG Talvi said, "The labourers say they could not see the face of the driver clearly. They were sitting atop the fly ash which was flying in the air because of the speeding truck. We have called the owner of the vehicle and would catch the driver soon."
Eye witnesses said the driver was trying to save a motorcycle rider when he lost control over the steering wheel and the truck jumped the railing.
Ukai police have registered a case under IPC sections 279, 337, 338, 304(A) and MV Act sections 177, 184 and 134.
