Chennai: People languishing in jails in connection with criminal cases have a reason to cheer. The Madras high court has decided to organise special sittings during the ongoing summer recess, and hear cases of people in jail.
A direction to this effect has been issued by Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, and sittings will be done during third and fourth week of this month said registrar general of the court.
'Mission Mode' will help wipe out pendency and backlog of criminal cases. The cases that would be taken up for hearing have been identified by the registry, and the list of cases would be published on the high court's website and pasted on notice boards to enable advocates/parties to attend the proceedings.
