Three MPs have questioned Tharaka Nithi Governor Samuel Ragwa's "silence" on the stolen Sh4 million medical equipment from Chuka Level 5 Hospital last Wednesday.

They said Ragwa should explain how the equipment procured through the national government's leasing programme were stolen.

They are Muthomi Njuki (Chuka Igambang'ombe), Alex Muiru (Tharaka) and Beatrice Nkatha (woman representative).

"The governor has not visited the hospital and is silent on the matter, except for trying to politicise the issue in political rallies," the MPs said in a press release to media houses.

The legislators questioned why the multimillion-shilling machine was stored in a building under construction by a contractor.

They also demanded the custodian of keys to the maternity theatre be disclosed.

The lawmakers further questioned why no one has been arrested seven days after the incident.

"Our strong sentiments are that loss of this machine if unrecoverable should not be ignored," the statement reads.

They demanded either the contractor or the Health executive be surcharged for negligence if the equipment is not recovered.

The county had received two anaesthesia machines.
