Randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines to be used in all ten constituencies in the district was held at the Collectorate on Tuesday in the presence of Collector C. Samayamoorthy and Election Observers Jadhav and Pranab Jyothi Nath.

As the ballot and the control units have already been calibrated, every unit has been allotted a unique number based on which the randomization was done. As Sankarankovil (274 polling stations), Vasudevanallur (271), Kadayanallur (321), Tenkasi (316), Alangulam (306), Tirunelveli (306), Ambasamudram (288), Palayamkottai (268), Nanguneri (293) and Radhapuram (288) segments will require 2,931 EVMs for the May 16 polls, the machines were calibrated and given unique numbers.

In addition to this, 439 EVMs have been kept ready to meet emergency.

Two ballot units

Since more than 15 candidates are in the fray for Tirunelveli, Nanguneri and Ambasamudram constituencies, two ballot units would be used in these segments and hence adequate number of spare units has been allotted for these constituencies.

To ensure transparency and fairness, randomization of these EVMs were done at the Collectorate on Tuesday in the presence of Mr. Samayamoorthty, Mr. Jadhav and Mr. Pranab Jyothi Nath and representatives of recognised political parties in fray.

District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, Assistant Collector (Training) K.P. Karthikeyan and senior officials participated in the meeting.
