Workers complain of non-payment of wages

Over 200 workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) at Bommampatti village in Elachipalayam Union said that wages under the scheme was not paid to them for the past three months.

They said that over 200 workers are involved in de-silting the lake in the area for many months now. Though workers were promised Rs. 203 as wage per day, only Rs. 100 was credited into their bank account, they added. When they questioned the officials, they were asked to work only on Fridays, workers said. And, they were not paid in the past three months making their life difficult, they added. Workers wanted the wage of Rs. 203 per day to be credited to their account immediately and wanted it to be regularised.
