Woman commits suicide

A 48-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into the Sirhind canal three days ago. Her body was found on Tuesday. The deceased woman has been identified as Kulwinder Kaur, resident of Balongi. Police said Kaur had gone to Sirhind to offer prayers at a gurdwara on April 26.

Mohali: A 48-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into the Sirhind canal three days ago. Her body was found on Tuesday. The deceased woman has been identified as Kulwinder Kaur, resident of Balongi.
Police said Kaur had gone to Sirhind to offer prayers at a gurdwara on April 26. She had been missing since then. On April 26, she called her husband, telling him that she is on the bus headed home.
But she didn't turn up late into the night and family members started searching for her. However, she was nowhere to be found and her phone was switched off.
The next day, husband of the deceased Daljeet Singh informed the police and a missing report was lodged. On Tuesday, local police at Sirhind informed the Mohali police about a body floating in the canal. The family members were informed and the body was identified as that of Kulwinder Kaur.
In her suicide note, she said five persons, Bhinda, Jagjit Singh, Poonam, Urmila and Chanda, all residents of Balongi, owed her Rs 6 to Rs 7 lakh between themselves but were not paying her. She said she had used all her savings in the schemes floated by the accused. "It's is been over two years since I started requesting them to return the money but they never responded," the note said.
SHO Satnam Singh said a case has been lodged against the accused under section 306 of the IPC and investigations are on. We are verifying facts of the case. All the accused are are absconding.
