Malaika shoots silver in Junior World Cup in Germany

Ludhiana shooter Malaika Goel took another shot at glory and made the city proud by winning a team silver medal in 10m air pistol event in ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany on Monday.

Ludhiana: Ludhiana shooter Malaika Goel took another shot at glory and made the city proud by winning a team silver medal in 10m air pistol event in ISSF Junior World Cup in Germany on Monday. Malaika was paired up with Yashaswni Singh and Gauri Sheoran in the event and scored maximum among them.
Malaika Goel scored 378 points followed by Yashaswani with 374 and Gauri 370 in the event to clinch silver for the country.

Malaika's father Sandeep Goel said, "I am proud of my daughter and wish her to keep making the country proud."
She came into limelight when she won a silver medal in Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 10m air pistol. Recently in December, Malaika won a bronze medal in National Championship, Delhi, with 381 points.
In November 2015, Malaika won a team gold with her co-shooters Harshda Nithave and Nayani Bhardwaj in 10m air pistol event at 13th Asian Shooting Championship at Kuwait. Malaika has scored 364 points and co-shooters Harshda and Nayani Bhaerdwaj scored 374 points each.

Malaika took up shooting when she was 6 years old. She has conquered all the odds to continue her passion in shooting. It may be mentioned here that, the city does not have any shooting range even for practice, but despite that Malaika managed to grow and win several medals in national and international shooting events.
Her coach Gurjeet Singh said, "Malaika has never-say-die spirit which helps her grow and perform with zeal. A shooter needs to have two qualities –– physical and mental power –– and Malika has both."
He said within four years (2010 to 2014), Malaika has won 16 international medals in different events.
What lies ahead
Malaika will be participating in the mixed event of the ongoing Junior World Cup on May 5 and afterwards another shooting championship is scheduled in Czechoslovakia by the end of May.
