Mumbai: Slain Cong leader’s wife deposes against NCP’s Padamsinh Patil

Anandibai referred to the day — June 3, 2006 — her husband was killed in his car in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai.

IN THE Pawanraje Nimbhalkar murder case, the slain Congress leader’s wife Anandibai, in the special court on Tuesday, deposed against the accused, including NCP leader Padamsinh Patil, who is alleged to have ordered the murder of Nimbhalkar due to political rivalry.

Anandibai referred to the day — June 3, 2006 — her husband was killed in his car in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai.

She said as soon as she heard about her husband’s death, she was sure it was the handiwork of Patil. She recalled that on a trip to Tirupati with her husband in 2005, he had informed her about a person approaching him a few days ago claiming that he had been given a supari by Patil to kill him. This made her suspect Patil when she heard about his death. In her earlier deposition, she had told the court that another co-accused, businessman Satish Mandade, known to the family, had approached her husband two-three months before his death, with a veiled threat to settle things between Patil and him.

On being shown photographs by the prosecution, Anandibai also recognised a man seen with corporator Mohan Shukla, who is also an accused in the case, loitering in front of their house 10-12 days before the murder. She identified the man present in the court as accused Parasmal Jain, who had allegedly arranged for shooters in the murder. She had earlier revealed how the political rivalry between the two, who were cousins, increased due to political reasons.
