NSA Ajit Doval, his Pakistani counterpart Nasir Khan Janjua bond over cigarettes

New Delhi: Not many months have passed since Government of Pakistan had appointed Nasir Khan Janjua as their National Security Advisor in place of Sartaj Aziz who though still continues as Foreign Policy Advisor of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Much had gone behind before taking final decision to appoint an Ex-Army man as National Security Advisor of Pakistan. ABP News has learnt from highly placed sources that most important factor behind Pakistan taking this decision was India and the fact that India always argued that elected government of Pakistan is not the real power centre so Nasir Janjua became a strong link between the elected government and the all-powerful Pakistan Army. It was after this appointment that Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had suddenly met Pak NSA janjua in Bangkok and then in Paris after Pathankot attack demanding visible and immediate action against Jaish-e-Mohammed. What will be of interest to many is what has clicked between both Doval and Janjua that goes beyond hard diplomatic talks? Well! It is Cigarette. Yes, not many would know that Doval and Janjua both are chain smokers and have developed good rapport over cigarette puffs. It is learnt from reliable sources by ABP News that even in their first meeting in Bangkok after Janjua's appointment both Doval and Janjua noted they were in habit of smoking and would hint to each other by eyes to move out of the meeting room for cigarette puffs and discuss serious issues between strictly the two of them while puffing their cigarettes. It is by now widely known to all that most of the Indo-Pak negotiations in Modi Government is done at the level of the two NSAs as they have developed good rapport and discuss much of the things between themselves over phone. In fact, as per sources, after meeting Doval for first time in Bangkok, Pakistani NSA Nasir Janjua, in a private meeting with one of the former Pakistani Diplomat had said that he is now slowly getting into habit of smoking the same Indian brand of cigarettes that NSA Doval uses, thereby meaning that some of the stocks then were given to him by NSA Doval. Recently as 5 former Pak High Commissioners had visited India for Track-2 dialogue, NSA Doval had also told them that he is satisfied with the Pakistani investigations into Pathankot attack so far but visible action is awaited. Now for whatever reason, cigarette puffs or better understanding because of Doval's intelligence and Janjua's defence background, it has to be seen if personal rapport of both yields results or not. If we go by history least personal rapport between PM vajpayee and PM Nawaz Sharif or between PM Dr Manmohan Singh and PM Yusuf raza Gilani or now PM Modi and PM Nawaz Sharif, has not yielded much results.
