MP Mujibur laid to rest
Capt (retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir, ruling Awami League (AL) MP from Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) and a freedom fighter, was laid to rest with state honour at his village home Kaltapara in Gouripur upazila of the district yesterday morning. Two separate namaj-e-janazas were held in Gouripur including one at local stadium around 10:00am, said Ali Ahmed Khan Silvi, a local AL leader. He was buried on the premises of Sebalaya, a charitable dispensary founded by the lawmaker at Kaltapara in the upazila. Earlier around 8:00am, his body was kept at Bangabandhu Chattar in Gouripur and people from all walks of life paid tribute to the lawmaker. On Monday morning, Mujibur died of a cardiac arrest at a Mymensingh hospital, aged 69. He left his wife and three daughters. Born in 1947, Mujibur served as the state minister for health during the previous tenure of AL.
