Hamilton Nabs 16 Tony Nominations

Hamilton 200 (GalleyCat)Hamilton: An American Musical has earned sixteen Tony Award nominations. This project, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda and inspired by Ron Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton biography, premiered with a production at the Public Theater before moving to Broadway.

The New York Times reports that Hamilton will be considered for this prestigious award in the following categories: Best Musical, Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Best Lead Actress in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, and Best Direction of a Musical. According to The Washington Post, some of the other literary-themed theatrical adaptations that also earned recognition include Misery (one nomination), Fiddler on the Roof (three nominations), The Color Purple (four nominations), The Crucible (four nominations), and A View From The Bridge (five nominations). The winners will be announced at a ceremony set to take place in New York City on June 12.
