A man was shot with a crossbow by another hunter who is reported to have mistaken him for a wild turkey.

The 61-year-old victim was out stalking the game birds with a friend when he was struck in the
left arm by a bolt.

Police were called to private land near Liberty Township, Michigan, just after dawn on Sunday.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the injured man, from New York, was taken to the Henry Ford Allegiance Health clinic with non-life-threatening, but serious injuries.

Police said they eventually plan to seek charges against a 51-year-old man for violations arising from the incident.

Hunting season for wild turkeys is from April 18 to May 31, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

The names of those involved have not yet been released by police.
