Belarus, Russia to create new transboundary nature reserves

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia intend to create new transboundary nature reserves as part of the action plan on cooperation in environmental protection between the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry and the Russian Natural Resources and Environment Ministry in 2016-2017, the press service of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry told BelTA.

The action plan was signed in Moscow during the meeting of Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Kovkhuto and Russian Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sergei Donskoi.

Belarus and Russia have agreed to step up cooperation in many areas. In particular, they will work together to protect atmospheric air, the ozone layer in the atmosphere, rare and endangered wild animals and plants. Close attention will be paid to forming an optimal habitat for the European bison. Belarus and Russia will share the best practices in the application of laws that regulate environmental protection and nature management, the organization of ecological control and oversight, and adaptation to climate changes. The sides will cooperate to preserve the landscape and biological diversity, including in the transboundary context and other spheres.

The meeting of the two ministers took place as part of the international expo and forum Ecotech. During the plenary session on challenges and capabilities of green technologies with regard to the economy the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister delivered a report on Belarus' progress in assimilating green economy principles.
