Huddersfield want Liverpool keeper Danny Ward on loan - sources

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward is being lined up for a loan move to Championship side Huddersfield Town next season, sources close to both clubs have told ESPN FC.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner is hoping to use his connection with close friend Jurgen Klopp to strike a deal to land Ward on a season-long loan next season with the Wales international viewed as a key part of his plans for next season, according to a source close to the Championship club.

Ward has been serving as backup to Simon Mignolet since returning to Anfield in January after a successful loan spell at Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old has made two Premier League appearances in recent weeks against Bournemouth and Swansea, but he could find himself further down the pecking order if Klopp opts to bring in competition for Mignolet in the summer.

A source close to Liverpool said Klopp is open to the idea of sending Ward out on loan next season so that he can get regular first-team experience under his belt to continue his development before being able to compete for the No. 1 spot.

Wagner, who managed Borussia Dortmund's reserve team during Klopp's time at the Westfalenstadion, is hoping to use his connection with his former colleague to secure first refusal on any young players who may be available for loan.
