Chandy said in a statement that this was why the Bharatiya Janata Party was not pressing for a CBI probe into the brutal murder of former CPM leader TP Chandrasekheran four years ago.

He said the BJP was soft on the Communist Party of India-Marxist as its principle enemy was the Congress. The BJP knows that if a CBI probe takes place, then the top leaders of the CPM would be in trouble.

“The BJP is interested in weakening the Congress. For that, these two parties are in a (covert) tie up for the (16 May) assembly polls,” Chandy said.

Chandrasekheran, 51, who launched the Revolutionary Marxist Party, was hacked 51 times by assailants on 4 May, 2012 when he was returning home on his motorcycle in his hometown near Kozhikode.

Eleven people have been found guilty of the crime and it includes local CPM leaders.

Chandy said CPM leader and former chief minister VS Achuthanandan seemed to have changed his mind on the need for a CBI probe into the murder.

“The CPM is yet to come out with even an apology,” he said.
