NEW DELHI: For the second day in a row, several areas in the national capital witnessed huge traffic snarls on Tuesday as taxi drivers continued their protest against the Supreme Court’s ban on diesel taxis.
Thousands of early morning commuters were stranded on the Delhi-Noida flyway and at the Mahipalpur-Gurgaon stretch as protesters blocked traffic.
Traffic jams were also reported at Ashram and Sarai Kale Khan extending up to Lajpat Nagar near the DND flyway.

The Supreme Court had on Saturday refused to extend the April 30 deadline to convert the NCR’s diesel cabs into less-polluting ones that run on CNG. That meant thousands of diesel taxis were taken off the roads in one fell swoop.

According to Delhi’s transport department, about 60,000 taxis are registered in the national capital of which 27,000 run on diesel.
The Delhi government said on Monday it will request the Supreme Court to reconsider the ban on diesel taxis in the NCR.
