“It was actually a lot easier than last year,” said a smiling Beyoncé of getting dressed in her Givenchy gown for Monday night’s Met Gala. Though the dress was made of heavily bejeweled latex, it must have been true: The megastar caused no four-hour delays.
Of course, not everyone at the ball was as unflappable as Queen Bey.
Between photo ops, Vera Wang-clad Rita Ora huffed and puffed her way to the top of the museum’s famous steps. Kate Hudson, in mermaid-tail Versace, and Blake Lively, in billowy Burberry, looked beautiful — but had similar strife, each tripping at least once. Stunning in a strapless sequined Burberry gown, Naomi Watts kept her struggle appropriate to the night’s Manus x Machina tech theme. When asked about the technology that she could benefit from, the actress yelled, “I need a robot to get out of this dress!”
And at least one star, Allison Williams, wearing floor-sweeping Peter Pilotto, made a helper of her date. “This is my ultimate tech accessory,” the “Girls” star mused, arm-in-arm with husband Ricky Van Veen.
On the night’s technology theme, most guests had no problem getting into the spirit.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik turned heads in Tommy Hilfiger sequins and Versace armor, respectively; Kim and Kanye got it right in Balmain. Speaking of — no one could get over how good Cindy Crawford looked in her body-hugging Balmain number.
The most literal of the bunch? Lupita Nyong’o. She wore Calvin Klein, but all that mattered was that gravity-defying hair.
And for their part, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom decided to play it cheeky.
“I wore my Tamagotchi from 1996,” Perry said, pointing to the digital pet accenting her Prada dress. “That was my tech contribution.”
