Prince Defended Chris Brown Over Rihanna Violence Scandal — ‘Nothing Is Unforgivable’

Chris Brown is gearing up to promote a new album entitled Heartbreak on a Full Moon, according to MTV, and the controversial R&B star and “country boy from Tappahannock” has secured an unexpected endorsement: Prince.

A report by Pitchfork claims that the recently-deceased Purple Rain legend wanted to mentor Chris Brown when the young singer, who is known for his electrifying dance style, was suffering a career slump.

It seems Rolling Stone did an interview with Prince in 2014, 5 years after Brown’s felony assault altercation with ex-girlfriend Rihanna, and chose not to publish it at the time.

“In 2014, Rolling Stone writer Brian Hiatt interviewed Prince at his Paisley Park estate for an intended cover story. The story ended up getting scrapped, but in the wake of the iconic musician’s death, it’s been brought back for the magazine’s latest cover.”

The interview material was kept on file by Rolling Stone, and in 2016 the publication has chosen to resurrect it and publish what they’ve dubbed “a lost cover story.”

Interest in Prince has surged in the weeks following the legendary singer’s death. Five of the late mega-star’s albums have sat in the Billboard top ten during the last week, according to Reuters.

Rolling Stone‘s Brian Hiatt interviewed Prince at his Paisley Park home in January 2014. Hiatt recalls that Prince “[mentioned] a desire to mentor Chris Brown.” It seems the mega-star even invited the young rapper to Paisley Park.

Prince’s offer was extended in the lead-up to the release of Chris’s 2014 album X. Brown’s most recent release, 2012’s Fortune, had been poorly received.

Perhaps Prince believed he knew the key to reviving the talented singer’s outlook.

Rolling Stone‘s Wiatt recalls that he spoke with Prince about the infamous 2009 Chris Brown/Rihanna incident, and Prince was “shocked” at the suggestion that Chris Brown’s actions were unforgivable.

“I note that some people think what Brown did to Rihanna was unforgivable. He’s shocked.”

The deeply-religious Prince reflected that only God had the authority to make that call.

“Unforgivable? Goodness. That’s when we go check the master, Christ…”

Prince also expressed his belief that “instantly forgiving someone” is a remarkable strategy, because it “feels great,” and it leaves the other person with nowhere to go.

“Have you ever instantly forgiven somebody? It’s the best feeling in the world, and it totally dismantles that person’s whole stance.”

Prince added that we are “all brothers and sisters,” and we should not allow anyone in our family to “fall.”

“We’re all connected, right, we’re all brothers and sisters, and the minute we lock that in, we wouldn’t let anybody in our family fall. That’s why I called Chris Brown. All of us need to be able to reach out and just fix stuff.”

A final comment from Prince about the Rihanna/Chris Brown issue has found its way into a number of headlines:

“There’s nothing that’s unforgivable.”

CNN previously reported that Rihanna, too, forgave Chris Brown for the incident.

“I don’t hate him at all. I actually love and care about him. I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life and grow up. And just take this as something you had to go through to grow up and learn.”

The Mirror reported that Rihanna’s father also “forgave Chris Brown for beating up his daughter,” in a provocatively-titled 2016 article.

“He respects me, calls me pops and I like him – despite what happened. He’s very talented and always humble.”

New reports are claiming that Chris Brown still has his eye on Rihanna. Brown is rumored to be “jealous” about Rihanna’s new rumored fling with Leonardo DiCaprio.
