Jaipur: Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Rainwal police outpost Satya Prakash, who was arrested for demanding bribe for releasing a notorious Delhi-based criminal Nandu and his aides, was on Monday produced in a court that sent him to judicial custody. Police officials said that four members of Nandu's gang who were nabbed on Sunday were also remanded in judicial custody.
The police had on Saturday arrested two constables of Rainwal police outpost for harbouring three Delhi-based criminals including Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
ASI Satya Prakash had escaped to Bikaner after the arrest of his two colleagues, but he was traced and nabbed.
"We produced him in a court. He has been sent to jail," a police officer said. Nandu and his two aides had been caught by villagers and then handed over to the staff of the Rainwal police outpost but instead of informing senior police officers these policemen hid them in the outpost assuring them a safe escape. In fact, three aides of these criminals came to Rainwal from Delhi with Rs 10 lakh in cash as an initial bribe amount. The police arrested all six criminals along with the three policemen. Over the past four days, 10 criminals from Haryana have been arrested by the police, highlighting how criminals consider Rajasthan, Jaipur in particular, a safe hiding place.
Before being nabbed, Nandu and his aides had taken a flat on rent and had been living here for a month. They were lying low in Jaipur as the Delhi and Haryana police were on their trail.
Following the arrests, the Jaipur police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal directed police stations to conduct special checking of vehicles on all entry points of the city.
