Problem of strays dog BCC
Belagavi: Varun Kole, 7, was attacked by a stray dog when he was walking back home. He was saved by residents of Sadashivnagar. Varun sustained injuries in his right leg and was rushed to the hospital. The problem of stray dogs plagues every corner of the city, especially residential areas. Varun is not the first kid to be bitten by a stray in the last two-three months.
Sharad Bamne, a resident of Nehru Nagar, feels that the problem has increased of late.
"Belagavi City Corporation should catch the dogs and leave them in the forests like how they did with stray cattle and pigs,' says Sharad.
Dr Nadagouda, veterinary officer, BCC, said that last year the BCC conducted the animal birth control (ABC) program. "This year too a tender was called, but nobody participated. We will call for tenders the fourth time. Local NGOs and firms are not coming forward for this work while firms in Hyderabad and Mumbai too are not showing interest in Belagavi. We can't catch and leave them in the forest as per the Supreme Court order," he said.
