Kaleshwaram project to be completed in 3 years

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said the ambitious Kaleshwaram project at Medigadda in Mahadevpur mandal of Karimnagar district will be completed in three years and the pump-house to lift water for irrigation in Karimnagar district will be ready within 16 months.

The Chief Minister along with his wife Shoba, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary, Ministers T. Harish Rao, Etala Rajender, A. Indrakaran Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy, Chief Whip Koppula Eshwar, Rajya Sabha member K. Keshava Rao, legislators and others participated in the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kaleshwaram project amid chanting of vedic hymns.

Dream project

Speaking after going through the rituals, the Chief Minister said Kaleshwaram was the dream project for the people of Telangana and it was taken up after conducting all kinds of surveys and investigations. Water from Kaleshwaram project comprising barrages at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla would be lifted to Yellampalli to Mid Manair Dam and other projects, he said adding that the project would transform North Telangana region on the irrigation front.

He explained that water would be lifted to Mallannasagar near Komaravelli in Warangal district and also to Hyderabad city to meet drinking water requirements. Stating that Maharashtra projects such as Babli and others constructed across the Godavari had dried up Sriramsagar project, he pointed out that water from the Kaleshwaram project would also stabilise the Sriramsagar ayacut.

Reiterating that the government would also take up a barrage at Tummidi Hatti across the Pranahita, he said it would ensure irrigation facility to 2.5 lakh acres in the eastern parts of Adilabad district. He also promised to complete the Chanakha-Korata barrage in Adilabad district in time.

Further, the Chief Minister stated that Kaleshwaram project would make available water round the year in Nizamsagar project to provide irrigation for two crops in Nizamabad district.

The government was also taking steps to ensure lifting of water round the year from Devadula project in Warangal district.
