Varanasi: Padma Vibhushan Sonal Mansingh gave her consent to join the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) as a visiting faculty member during a ceremony, organized as a part of varsity's centennial celebrations, to felicitate the Odissi dancer.
BHU vice-chancellor Prof GC Tripathi felicitated Mansingh on Monday and proposed her to facilitate the students of performing arts as a visiting faculty.
Mansingh was in the city to participate in the six-day world famous Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh on April 30 evening. Recalling her previous visits to BHU and her association with the varsity, Mansingh said, I had first visited BHU with my mother in 1950 to present a dance performance as a part of varsity's diamond jubilee celebrations. Even the first dean of music faculty at BHU, Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, had accepted my mother as his daughter so our connection is very old.
BHU VC also honoured Kathak dancer Soni Chaurasia for her attempt to set a Guinness book record by performing 26 hrs 05 mins recently.
