Mamata remembers Ray on his birth anniversary

Kolkata, May 2 (IBNS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday paid homage to legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray on the latter's 95th birth anniversary.

"Homage to Satyajit Ray on his birth anniversary," she said.  

Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee said, "Prosenjit chatterjee : The man who defines Cinema.u r an inspiration to us Manik jethu.u r immortal. Happy birthday and lots of respect."

Belonging from a famous family, Ray rose to fame with his debut movie Pather Pachali, winning 11 international awards.

With movies like Aparajito and Apur Sansar, he cemented his place in global cinema.

Ray is regarded as an auteur, and donned multiple hats, including that of a music director, screen play writer, alongside directing his movies.

He also excelled in the field of literature, churning out several memorable characters. 

His Feluda series, stories about a Bong sleuth, captivated the Bengali youth for decades.

Ray was awarded India's highest civilian award, The Bharat Ratna in 1992, the year of his demise.

The legendary filmmaker's contribution towards global cinema was also acknowledged by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who presented him with an Honorary Academy Award in 1992.

Ray is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, among other accolades.
