Jadhav calls for merger of villages

Pimpri Chinchwad: Outgoing municipal commissioner Rajeev Jadhav has underlined the need to merge seven villages from Hinjewadi to Gahunje into the Pimpri Chinchwad municipal limits to ensure their planned development.
Jadhav, who has been transferred as commissioner of tribal development department, Nashik, was discussing his tenure as civic chief of over two years with reporters.

"The civic general body had sent a resolution to the state government requesting the merger of seven villages, including Hinjewadi, Maan, Marunji, Gahunje, Jambhe and Nere, a year ago," he said.
Jadhav said that during his tenure, special emphasis was given on improvement of transportation and starting the bus rapid transit system on Sangvi-Kiwale and Nashik Phata-Wakad routes. "There has been a great response from citizens and 33% increase in ridership and 38% increase in income on these routes. The civic body is planning to introduce the bus transit system on two other routes - Nigdi-Dapodi on Pune-Mumbai highway and Kalewadi Phata-Dehu Alandi road," he said.

Jadhav also emphasized the need to complete the projects to bring water from Andra and Bhama Askhed dams to the city. He said Pimpri Chinchwad has been allotted 469 MLD from Pavana dam, of which it draws 450 MLD. The city will be able to get around 700 MLD water to meet the needs of the growing population after the Andra and Bhama Askhed projects are completed. PCMC allocated Rs 40 crore in its 2016-17 budget for Andra dam project.
Jadhav expressed regrets that he could not pay enough attention to improving health services at the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri. Focus should also have been on improving municipal primary schools, he said.
