MC employees protest as cops impound vehicle

Ludhiana: After municipal corporation's tipper vehicles was impounded by traffic police, MC employees staged a protest at Dandi Swami chowk for about an hour which disturbed traffic on Monday. According to information, the driver of the tipper vehicle allegedly jumped a red traffic light near old courts chowk and ASI (traffic) Ashwani Kumar impounded the vehicle as the driver failed to produce documents at the spot.
However the MC officials stated that they don't put documents in the vehicles and soon after getting the information, MC officials reached at the spot with the documents.
MC superintendent Jasdev Singh Sekhon said that there was no mistake of the driver and he crossed the signal on yellow light and that another traffic personnel had asked him to drive through. Further, he said that when traffic police officers refused to cancel the challan, protest was staged by MC employees. Sekhon said that employees from various offices of MC had joined the protest. Soon, ADCP Dhruv Dahiya, ACP Rupinder Kaur and some other officials also reached the spot as MC employees parked their vehicles inbetween the road leading to a huge traffic jam.
However, after about an hour, traffic police released the vehicle and the protest was lifted. Sources said that the protesters settled down only after an SP-rank officer got involved and assured that he will pay the amount of challan from his side. A commuter stuck in the jam said that protesters need to realize that public activities are badly affected by their agitations and rising summer temperature further creates problems.
