An unidentified man fired one round from a country-made weapon at an employee of a private financial institution at Katedan in Mailardevpally on Monday afternoon. The condition of the injured man was stated to be critical.

The victim Prashad, works at a banking kiosk of Geosansar, a private banking firm, located on the first floor of a commercial complex at Katedan.

Around 3 p.m, an unidentified person walked into the two-room office where Prasad was sitting.

“The man offered Rs. 500 to Prashad and asked him to transfer the amount to a bank account. As Prashad completed the transaction, the man whipped out a country-made weapon and fired one bullet at him and walked away,” DCP Shamshabad A R Srinivas said. Soon after Prasad managed to walk out of the office and informed his friend Munna, who sits in an adjoining shop about being shot at. Munna immediately took him on a two wheeler to Global Hospital at Lakdikapul where the injured man was admitted and the police informed.

The Mailardevpally police rushed to the spot and took up investigation. Soon DCP Shamshabad, A R Srinivas along with the CLUES teams and ballistic experts came to the place to assist the investigators.

“We suspect that the gunman has some previous enmity with Prasad. Because, there was around Rs. 3 lakh cash in the cash box but the offender did not carry it away,” the official explained.

The police have formed special teams to identify and trace the culprit.

The police have obtained footage recorded by closed circuit cameras installed around the office.
