Sonali and Shirin are ‘Chetnadoots’
Yavatmal: The resident deputy collector Rajesh Khawle has appointed Sonali Shravan Fufare and Shirin Sheikh, two young girls from Yavatmal as ‘Chetnadoots’ and felicitated them in a programme. They will spread awareness and support administration’s ‘Baliraja Chetna Abhiyan’ aimed at dissuading farmers from committing suicide. Sonali is a student in the Upper Primary Marathi School in village Kapra, over 18 kms away from Yavatmal.
One of her poems ‘Zaad’ (Tree) has been selected and included in the Balbharati Marathi text book for class VI. Her parents are farmers.
The young Sonali wants to create mass awareness among the distressed farmers through her poems and help them to lead a dignified life and not to take the extreme step of suicide.
The story of Shirin is entirely different. She is a physically disabled and has lost both her hands. But she is pursuing a degree in commerce and is determined to prove to the farmers that nothing is impossible.
Shirin also wants to encourage the distressed farmers in the district with her story. She wants to share her story with the farmers trapped in deep debts.
Both Sonali and Shirin met Khawle who is looking after the Baliraja Chetana Abhiyan in Yavatmal and extended their cooperation to it.
Khawle and his team are in search of dedicated students, teachers, artists, NGOs and other social organizations to involve them in the Abhiyan for making Yavatmal a suicide free district.
