A total of 128 candidates are in the fray in the seven Assembly constituencies in Virudhunagar district after the final list of candidates was released following withdrawals on Monday.
Sivakasi has the highest number of candidates (25) and Virudhunagar and Aruppukottai the lowest(15 each).
On the last day of withdrawal on Monday, six candidates in Aruppukottai, three in Sattur, two each in Rajapalayam and Srivilliputtur and one in Tiruchuli withdrew their nominations.
Among the candidates in the fray in Rajapalayam are: A.N. Ramachandra Raja (BJP); A. Gurusamy (CPI(M)), S. Thangapandian (DMK); A.A.S. Shyam (AIADMK) and P. Lakshmanan (PMK).
E. Ramasamy (BJP), M. Chandra Prabha (AIADMK), P. Lingam (CPI), S. Muthukumar (Puthiya Tamilagam) and V. Vellaichamy (PMK) among others are contesting from Srivilliputtur (Reserved) constituency.
In Sattur, the final list of contestants includes S. Ashok Kumar (Bahujan Samaj Party), V. Srinivasan (DMK), S.G. Subramanian (AIADMK), P. Gnanapandithan (BJP), P. Karthik Rajan (Shiv Sena), K. Pasupathi Devan (All India Forward Bloc), M. Balakrishanan (PMK), and A.R. Raghuraman (MDMK).
R. Sudhakaran (DMDK), A.G. Parthasarathy (BJP), K.T. Rajenthra Balaji (AIADMK), C. Sriraju (Congress), Thilagabama (PMK) and V. Maharajan (AIFB) among others are in the fray in Sivakasi.
K. Kalanithi (AIADMK), S. Kamatchi (BJP), A.R.R. Srinivasan (DMK), M. Syed Haja Sherif (DMDK) and P. Ganesh Perumal (PMK) are the prominent candidates contesting from Virudhunagar.
In Aruppukottai, the prominent in the list of candidates are K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran (DMK), E. Sundaraj (BSP), S. Senthil Kumar (CPI), R. Vetrivel (BJP), Vaigai Selvan (AIADMK) and T. Aravind Kumar (PMK).
Siva Ilangovan (BSP), Thangam Thennarasu (DMK), K. Dinesh Babu (AIADMK), R. Ravirajan (BJP), T. Raju (DMDK), A. Muniyasamy (PMK) and M. Jagan Chakravarathi (AIFB) are testing their electoral prospects in Tiruchuli.
