John Slattery To Play President Eisenhower In New Winston Churchill Biopic

Mad Men star John Slattery will play the role of the military leader-turned-US president Dwight D Eisenhower in a new Winston Churchill biopic.

Brian Cox has been cast as the titular British wartime Prime Minister Churchill, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie focuses on Churchill's leadership in the tense period leading up to the Allied Forces' D-Day landings in Normandy, France in 1944, during World War II. It also details his relationship with his wife, Clementine, who supported him throughout the stressful time. Miranda Richardson has been contracted to play Clementine.

Suki Waterhouse and Julian Wadham also appear in the main cast. The production of the film, to be directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, is set to begin this month. The script was written by historian Alex von Tunzelmann.
