A trippy beach party comes to the roof of Yotel in Hell’s Kitchen

One thing we never mind seeing more of is new rooftop bars, especially when the scene is more “afternoon at the beach” than “highest heels only.” Get past the uninspired name of Social Drink & Food — as opposed to all the venues catering to introverts? — and you’ll find a new party-ready rooftop terrace and restaurant on the fourth-floor roof of Yotel in Hell’s Kitchen (570 10th Ave. near 42nd Street).

Set to open on Wednesday, May 4, the space is decorated for a trippy beach party, with tons of palms and ficus trees among rainbow-colored lounge chairs and basket-weave sofas. The small menu of familiar plates like steak frites and fish & chips is rounded out with a pizza oven.

At the bar, fruits and flowers rule in Moroccan-influenced cocktails like the Rosewater Martini and the Fig Caipirinha (Leblon cachaça, lime juice, fig, ginger ale); there are also four wines on tap and a fun global grab-bag of beers. Social is also a Rooftop Cinema Club venue, with screenings beginning this month — the $30 tickets will include food and drink.
