Editor Speaks: Everybody loves Ranveer Singh

What’s it like to date one of the prettiest gals in showbiz, have a wacky fashion sense that lets you carry off even a skirt with aplomb, to be on the wish-list of every director worth his salt, to be the favourite poster boy of the paparazzi – speak up if your name is Ranveer Singh! Because the six-pack lad, who bye-the-bye, has also single-handedly made the beard and moustache the in-thing among boys and men has done all that and more…

The super stupendous success of Bajirao Mastani has added another feather to his cap, which soon is going to resemble a quiver, going by his rapid rate of accomplishments. Every time we imagine Akbar it’s Papaji’s aka Prithviraj Kapoor’s face that we imagine. And it won’t be an exaggeration to say that Ranveer will become the archetype for future adaptations of Bajirao. Historicals can go horribly wrong and it takes a special kind of courage to portray a revered character. It’s to Ranveer’s credit that he boldly went where most would fear to tread and succeeded.

He’ll soon be seen in Aditya Chopra’s Befikre. The Chopra scion hasn’t directed in eons. But whatever he touches turns to box-office gold. So everyone is understandably excited about the film. Shah Rukh Khan has always been Adi’s first choice and in a break from tradition, that mantle has now fallen on Ranveer, while most were expecting it to go to his namesake, Ranbir (Kapoor).That itself should tell you how far this outsider has come. Or maybe it’s more fitting. SRK too was an outsider once, after all. 
Ranveer, like Raj Kapoor and Charlie Chaplin before him, has guessed correctly that it’s better to be a joker and garner a few laughs than show the world your wounds and have them ridiculed. He’s a serious, private person but doesn’t ever show that. Rather, he prefers to perform. The camera is always on for him and perhaps in today’s Twitter and Instagram filled world, where everyone with a Smartphone is an instant journalist, that’s a wise choice indeed. Earlier, the stars were afraid to be caught with their pants down. But today that’s okay as long as your guard isn’t down.
