Partial respite from scorching heat, 4 deaths in 48 hours

Amid reports of at least four heat wave related deaths in Gujarat in past 48 hours with mercury still soaring above 40 degree Celsius at many places, some partial respite from the scorching heat today came in the form of sudden change in climatic conditions.

Surajpal (23), a resident of Narol area in Ahmedabad succumbed to heat stroke in L G Hospital while 63 year old Dhirubhai Gohil died owing to similar reasons in Bhavnagar city. A couple also reportedly died due to heat stroke in Kucth district.

Meanwhile, cloudy weather in many parts of the state including Saurashtra, central and south Gujarat and sudden change in climate in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and many parts of North Gujarat gave some respite to people. Gandhinagar and some other areas saw gusty winds with drizzle.

As per the the bulletin of the meteorology center here Kandla airport with 43.3 degree Celsius remained the hottest place in the state during last 24 hours while Ahmedabad saw the peak temperature of 42.1.

The maximum temperature at various places during the last 24 hours was as following-

RAJKOT 41.9 , DEESA 40.6, GANDHI NAGAR 41.5, IDAR 41.2, SURENDRANAGAR 42.0 V.V. NAGAR 40.8, VADODARA 41.0,BHUJ 40.0, SURAT 34.4 , BHAVNAGAR 39.3 AMRELI 41.6.
