Azam defends Cong over Agusta: asks BJP not to raise issue

Rampur, May 2 (UNI) Even as the Congress is on the back foot over the aborted AgustaWestland helicopter deal, Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan has come to the rescue of the grand old party saying the BJP is trying to develop the issue into another Bofors like scandal.
"BJP has once again opened the gates of the Bofors issue. Such issued are raised by the political parties either in power or in opposition when they have no other issue to go to the people. I appeal to the BJP to not to make a big scandal out of the Augusta wasteland helicopter deal,’’ said Mr Khan here yesterday.
On his tussle with Governor Ram Naik , the Minority Affairs Minister said, "If the Governor is unhappy with me then I would meet him and explain my stand to persuade him, if the Governor wants to persuade me then he should give his approval to the pending bill relating to the municipal bodies’’.
