In a letter, addressed to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, TSPB Vice Chairman S Niranjan Reddy said that the area under rabi groundnut increased tremendously during the last five years (2011 – 2015) to an extent of 1.25 lakh hectors in Mahabubnagar district, which is the highest in Telangana. The increase in groundnut area is mainly due to the availability of high yielding varieties (K-6, K-9 and Dharani), promotion of sprinkler irrigation system on a large scale by the Department of Agriculture, suitability of soil types (red sandy loam) of the district and higher productivity (20-25 q/ha) compared to other districts of the state, besides remunerative market price (Rs. 4500 to 5000/quintal). In the near future, there is a tremendous scope for further increase in groundnut area in the district. Please log in to get detailed story.Tags: #TSPB urges CM to establish RARS in Mhabubnagar Dist
