Lazio should appoint Simone Inzaghi permanently, says Antonio Candreva

Simone Inzaghi should be given the Lazio job on a full-time basis, according to Antonio Candreva.

Candreva looks unlikely to be with the Biancocelesti next season after the Eternal City club's director of sport Igli Tare announced that both he and Lucas Biglia are set to leave as part of a major squad shake-up in the summer.

However, the Lazio midfielder has backed caretaker coach Inzaghi to keep his place on the bench next term after a 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Sunday.

"The coach has got all the ideas and what you see us do on the field comes from him," Candreva told Mediaset television. "He deserves to have a great future. It's not up to me to decide, but I hope he stays at Lazio because he really deserves it."

Inzaghi's record since replacing Stefano Pioli as Lazio boss has seen him claim three wins and two defeats.

One of those losses was to Serie A champions Juve, while Sunday's win reignites a faint glimmer of hope that they can still secure a place in Europe next season.

Lazio trail sixth-placed Sassuolo by four points with two games of the season remaining, although Inzaghi may miss next weekend's trip to Carpi after being sent to the stands by referee Luca Banti for complaining about a yellow card shown to Keita Balde.

"The last times I was sent off in my playing career it was always Banti [the referee]," Inzaghi said. "I think my conduct was correct."

If the 40-year-old is forced to watch on from elsewhere in the stadium next weekend, he could still find a way to keep in touch with his assistants, with Mediaset reporting that he used WhatsApp to order them to send on Stefano Mauri for Miroslav Klose during Sunday night's win.
