Photo Journal: One giant leap

(Mainichi)

With an artificial leg, Atsushi Yamamoto lands after a 6.56 meter leap that marked a new world record in the men's T42-class running long jump and won him first place at the Japan Para Athletics competition at Coca-Cola West Sports Park track and field stadium in Tottori, on May 1, 2016. Yamamoto, 34, is expected to compete for Japan at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics. The previous world record, 6.53 meters, was set by a Danish athlete in June last year. "I think I've gotten a lot closer" to winning a gold medal, Yamamoto said. (Mainichi)
