Adam Voges suffers freak head injury in onfield accident

Australian batsman Adam Voges, who has seen the highs of averaging 100.33 in Tests, suffered a freak head injury on Sunday while playing in a domestic match for Middlesex against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl stadium in Southampton.
Voges was struck on the back of his head by a ball thrown by the substitute fielder Ollie Rayner and missed by wicketkeeper John Simpson. Voges collapsed to the ground and was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, he was discharged from the hospital but is reportedly still suffering from concussion.
His accident brings back the memory of Australian batsman Phil Hughes who died two days after being struck on the head by a bouncer while playing in a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground in November 2014. (Also Read: Sri Lanka's Kaushal Silva suffer blow on head)
The 36-year-old Voges, who bettered Sir Don Bradman's average of 99.96 for a brief period during the Wellington Test in February, will take no further part in the match. Voges has played 15 Tests and currently averages 95.
"The feeling from the physio Peter Waxman is that it is a concussion but that will be shown up later. It was a freak injury but you wonder why when a cricket ball which gets thrown around the field as much as it does it doesn't happen as often. A cricket ball is a hard thing," Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said.
"It is sad for Adam and disappointing for us as we will have no more use out of him in this match. He wasn't feeling very well in the dressing room so we decided to get him to the hospital to get him checked over. He wants to remain here even if he can't play," he said.
