Google Doodle on Monday commemorated the birth anniversary of Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda, who is best known for his work in Times of India and the Illustrated Weekly of India.
A native of Goa, Miranda was much loved for presenting vignettes of village life from his hometown. When he moved to Mumbai, he aptly portrayed the crowded urban life in Mumbai. His art was always bustling with characters and revealed how observant the artist was of his surroundings.
In the 1990s, Rushi Yazdegardi, the owner of Cafe Mondegar, in Mumbai's Colaba, had asked Miranda to draw murals on two walls of his eatery. One of the wall shows 'Life in Mumbai', while the other one is dedicated to 'Atmosphere in the Café. Miranda's art can be found in several other parts of India and his art can be found in several published books.
Cartoonist Aaron Renier, who created the Google doodle, took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "If you google, why not try Google India today? I did the doodle for the great Indian cartoonist #MarioMiranda"

The doodle depicts a busy town with monochromic people and colourful umbrellas.
In Goa, Miranda's hometown, his friend and curator of the Mario Gallery Gerard da Cunha, will mark the occasion with the release of a book titled The Life of Mario -1949. The book is the latest in a series, which include '1950' and '1951'.
Miranda, who passed away in December 2011, authored several pictorial travelogues on some of the most famous cities in the world including Lisbon and London. He was posthumously honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 2012.
