LAHORE: Punjab Minority Affairs and Human Rights Minister Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that setting up of National Commission on Human Rights is an important step towards maintaining GSP Plus status. He was addressing a forum of stakeholders regarding GSP Plus status and human rights and future priorities of the country arranged by Democracy Reporting International. Renowned analysts Peter Jacob, Anees-ur-Rehman, Bushra Khaliq, Sabira Asmat, Fauzia Waqar, I A Rehman, Iftikhar Rasool, Hassan Nasir, Irfan Mufti, Muhammad Rafique and others highlighted the significance of GSP Plus status and expressed their views with regard to National Commission on Human Rights. Sandhu said that increase in exports is essential for strengthening of national economy, adding that world is facing different problems including poverty, shortage of resources and terrorism. He said that monitoring mechanism is of vital importance for implementation of projects, adding that people of Pakistan would directly benefit from GSP Plus status, as it would result in increase in national exports and maximum investment. He said that there is a need for activating human rights commission and said that the government would continue to hold consultations with civil society and media for this purpose.
