Gurgaon: Residents of DLF Westend on Sunday protested against the upcoming CNG station and petrol pump next to their premises, saying there was a high risk of fire accidents and health hazards. They also demanded the removal of a liquor vend next to the pump.
"All kinds of people visit this vend. They drink and smoke, some day if a drunk man throws a cigarette or bidi stub near the pump, there will be an uncontrollable fire," said Amitabh Kumar, one of the residents.
"The underground storage of gas also can cause cancer as it can expose residents to chemicals such as Hexane and Benzene," he added.
The residents of the DLF-5 society are further worried because there is a sports academy for kids within 100 metres of the stretch The other concern the residents have is that CNG station and the petrol pump will attract a lot of traffic making the junction outside their society very chaotic.
"The U-turn outside DLF Westend is a very busy point with heavy traffic especially during office hours. If both the pump and the CNG station come up, there will be a queue of cars all the time adding to the congestion," said Rahil Karanwal, another resident.
