Bhopal: The city continued to reel under sizzling temperature of above 42 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Sunday. Though the maximum temperature was a few notches below what was recorded the previous day, it offered little respite from the heat. Against the record 42.7 degrees the city witnessed on Saturday, the mercury stood at 42.3 degrees on Sunday, some two degrees above the normal mark.

Saturday night was hot at 26.4 degree Celsius, a notch above the normal mark. The previous night was warm at 24.8 degrees.
Officials at the metrological department's Bhopal circle say that the sudden rise in the temperatures is due to absence of any weather system over the region. There is moisture incursion in the state from the Arabian sea in the west. The wind direction in city was north westerly while its speed was around 20 kilometres per hour, they say.
Monday evening may offer some respite, the weatherman says. The city may witness clouds along with thunderstorm at isolated places bringing down the mercury to 40 degree Celsius. If the predictions go true, the city may witness light showers at various places by Tuesday evening. The clouds may continue to offer respite for a day or two. The change may bring the mercury further down to 39 degrees on Tuesday and to 38 degrees on Wednesday, the department has predicted.
