Dave Grohl has admitted that he briefly quit playing in Nirvana after Kurt Cobain slammed his drumming. The revelation comes in a new biography on Grohl from writer Paul Brannigan and the writer claims that Nirvana almost split in 1993.
Brannigan explains that by the fall of 1993 the "sickness at the heart of Nirvana" had become too much for Grohl. The legendary rockers said "Kurt was kinda f****d up. And I heard him talk about how s***y a drummer I was." Grohl then called Nirvana's then-manager and said, "I just want to f*****g play music. I don't want to have to deal with any of this craziness."
"In the cold light of day, Dave decided that everyone has to eat a little s**t at work sometimes," wrote Brannigan, adding that Grohl "tried to carry on in a measured, professional manner."
He adds, however, "Dave was very aware that Nirvana was Kurt and Krist's band, and that as lifelong friends, they shared a bond which went beyond music. At some point I feel that Dave would have parted company with the pair."
