Many remain useless

May 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

The old skywalks in some parts of the city like the ones near Domlur Flyover, Basaveshwara Circle, and Kempe Gowda Road, were found to be virtually useless due to the absence of lifts or escalators.

“The reason why many of the skywalks failed in the past was because most of them were not placed at proper junctions, but were placed where advertising was lucrative. Also, the required height is about six metres and the average skywalk has around 70 steps. It is only natural then that pedestrians, especially senior citizens and children would rather cross the road than use the skywalk,” said traffic expert M.N. Sreehari.
